This site was built by people who have personally argued with a Scatter.

The field hospital was a jar of honey.

Not near a jar of honey.

Not supplied by one.

The medical equipment itself appeared to be a large orange jar with a white cross on the front, which raised several questions about ant anatomy and answered all of them with sugar.

Beside it were helmets, grenades, dog tags and a tank.

A proper tank.

The soldier on the left of the screen was approximately insect-sized and carrying an assault rifle with the expression of somebody who had been informed that the picnic table was now sovereign territory.

I started with €22.65 and €0.30 spins.

That felt like an appropriate defence budget.

The battlefield was spread across five reels with sandbags, wooden watchtowers and green canvas tents behind them.

Reels 2 through 5 had little multiplier displays above them.

All x1.

Fresh recruits.

No combat record.

The first spin brought a helmet, letters and the honey jar.

Nothing.

The second produced a grenade next to a tank.

Still nothing.

A few low symbols formed a line later and returned some coins.

The ant commander stared forward.

He had an automatic weapon.

I had received sixty cents.

Morale remained officially stable.

Then a Multiplier Upgrader symbol appeared.

A little radio.

That was immediately funny.

The army did not improve its firepower with ammunition.

It received a radio call.

The multiplier above one reel increased.

The radio then turned into an ordinary paying symbol.

No winning line used the improved reel.

Next spin, the multiplier reset to x1.

Perfect.

Ant command had spent an entire transmission increasing artillery capability for approximately four seconds and then dismantled it before the next engagement.

This happened again several spins later.

Another radio.

Another reel multiplier climbed.

The line went somewhere else.

Reset.

I began treating the radios as headquarters issuing increasingly expensive instructions to units that were already marching in the opposite direction.

The Expanding Wild soldier appeared for the first time not long after.

He landed in the middle of a reel.

Expanded upward.

Wilds filled the cells above him.

That actually helped.

A line crossed through the new Wilds and paid something small.

Good.

At least one ant understood vertical movement.

A later Expanding Wild landed awkwardly at the top with the wrong directional intention and remained basically where he was.

The commander had reached the top of the ladder and been ordered to continue upward.

There was sky.

Operation complete.

The first 28 spins slowly reduced the balance to €18.45.

The army had consumed €4.20.

Mostly on radios, apparently.

The honey jar remained in circulation.

I kept seeing it and wondering whether injured ants climbed inside.

This was not helping military credibility.

Then three FS Scatters landed.

Red buttons.

The sort of giant button an ant would require several family members to press.

A normal line also returned €0.60 on the triggering spin.

Then the battlefield changed.

ANT MARCH.

Eight Free Spins.

The multiplier displays above reels 2 through 5 reset to x1.

That mattered because, unlike the base game, whatever happened to them now would remain for the entire campaign.

Finally.

The radios had persistent authority.

The first Free Spin immediately brought two of them.

One landed on reel 3.

+3.

The display moved from x1 to x4.

Another radio landed on reel 5.

+2.

x3.

Excellent.

Two sectors upgraded.

No win.

Also excellent.

The ants had established artillery superiority over absolutely nothing.

The next spin produced an Expanding Wild on reel 2.

This one filled the reel properly.

Now we had something.

A winning line passed through the Wild coverage and into the boosted section.

€1.20.

Not huge.

But the multiplier above reel 3 remained x4 after the spin.

That was the satisfying part.

The army had finally stopped forgetting its own orders.

Free Spin 3 brought more radio traffic.

Reel 3 received another increase and reached x6.

Reel 4 jumped to x5.

The top of the grid now read like somebody had handed command to an ant who had discovered multiplication.

x1.

x6.

x5.

x3.

The reels below produced nothing useful.

Naturally.

We now had magnificent firepower and no target.

A tank landed.

A helmet.

A grenade.

Letters.

Nobody managed to form the appropriate line through the weaponised section.

The ant soldier on the left remained confident.

That was becoming his most impressive skill.

Next Free Spin.

A four-symbol combination finally formed.

It crossed enough boosted territory for the multiplier structure to matter.

€1.50.

Good.

The army had built x6 and x5 positions and converted them into the economic equivalent of a decent sandwich.

Still, the values remained.

The next spin dropped another FS Scatter.

One extra Free Spin went onto the counter before the Scatter transformed.

The campaign had extended itself.

Somewhere, an ant had successfully requisitioned more time.

The spin returned €0.60.

Then another radio landed on reel 2.

The multiplier there moved to x2.

No win.

The top row now looked better:

x2.

x6.

x5.

x3.

That was a serious collection of numbers.

If the correct line crossed all the relevant reels, they would multiply together.

Theoretically.

This word was doing increasing amounts of work.

Free Spin 7 finally delivered the situation.

An Expanding Wild soldier landed on reel 4 and filled it.

The Wild coverage opened the route.

Matching symbols connected from the left and ran through the multiplied reels.

Now the x2, x6 and x5 could actually cooperate.

The payout jumped to €3.00.

That became the best hit of the bonus.

Three euros.

The army had assembled a multiplier chain that looked capable of invading a neighbouring continent and used it to buy lunch.

The honey jar appeared on the next spin.

Of course it did.

After all that combat, medical services had arrived.

€0.60 returned.

Then came the extra Free Spin earned earlier.

The multipliers still sat above the reels, fully trained and heavily armed.

x2.

x6.

x5.

x3.

I wanted one final line through all of it.

Tank.

Grenade.

Helmet.

Wild plane.

Anything.

The symbols landed.

A modest line found part of the setup and returned €0.90.

Then the march ended.

€7.80 total.

That put the balance at €26.55.

I had entered the feature below €19.

So the ants had done their job.

Technically.

Financially.

Emotionally, however, I had just watched an army build permanent reel multipliers across almost the entire battlefield and turn the whole operation into less than eight euros.

The tiny commander had a rifle.

The army had tanks.

There were grenades everywhere.

The field hospital was made of honey.

Perhaps expectations required adjustment.

The base game returned.

The multipliers reset.

x1.

x1.

x1.

x1.

Everything we had built during Ant March disappeared instantly.

Demobilisation was ruthless.

The next spin brought another Multiplier Upgrader.

It pushed one reel upward.

A winning line went somewhere else.

Next spin.

Reset.

Back to normal military administration.

I stayed at €0.30.

The bonus had put the session into profit, and there was still something deeply compelling about watching the army create impressive multiplier structures and then aim around them.

A tank line paid.

Small.

Several letters followed.

Nothing.

Another Expanding Wild landed and filled downward.

Useful shape.

Wrong symbols.

No payment.

The soldier had secured an entire vertical corridor containing nobody.

Another radio increased a reel multiplier to something respectable.

A grenade landed near the route.

The winning line missed.

Reset.

This was no longer bad luck.

This was doctrine.

The ants appeared to believe multiplier positions were ceremonial.

The balance came back down through the mid-twenties.

One decent line returned €0.90.

Then several empty spins.

The honey jar showed up repeatedly, which felt ominous.

Medical supplies should not be the most consistent unit on a battlefield.

A Wild plane appeared and actually helped one small combination.

The ants had air support.

Naturally it was worth less than a jar of honey had looked capable of holding.

Twenty-four spins after the bonus, the profit was nearly gone.

€22.05 remained.

Back near the starting point.

The commander still stared outward from beside the reels as though the campaign was proceeding exactly according to plan.

I gave the battlefield another eighteen spins.

Same thirty cents.

No attempt to buy Colony Assault.

No FeatureSpins.

No special supply route.

If the ants could not make normal war work, I was not financing mechanised escalation.

A Multiplier Upgrader landed twice on the same reel in one spin.

The value above it climbed nicely.

No winning line used it.

Reset.

That may have been the purest expression of the entire session.

Two radio calls.

One sector heavily upgraded.

Zero combat.

A few spins later, the Expanding Wild commander landed near the bottom and expanded upward.

This time a helmet line passed through him.

Small return.

Finally, an officer had occupied territory containing actual troops.

The next few spins returned to letters.

Grenade.

Tank.

Honey.

Dog tags.

The artefacts of a war whose most successful operation had still been an eight-spin bonus returning €7.80.

The final balance settled at €18.45.

Exactly where the session had been before the Ant March trigger.

That felt almost too appropriate.

The entire bonus had temporarily liberated €8.10 worth of territory, and the base game had calmly reconquered all of it.

The last screen showed the ant commander with his rifle beside a battlefield full of military equipment.

The multipliers above the reels were back at x1.

No radios active.

No march.

No colony assault.

The honey jar remained available.

Official communiqué:

The ants still held the forest floor.

Financial objectives were not achieved.
