The purple pot ate a stick of TNT.
Nothing happened.
No explosion.
No feature.
No emergency evacuation of Chicago.
The TNT disappeared into the purple mouth above the reels and the pot glowed with the self-importance of an object that had just swallowed explosives for decorative purposes.
I was playing €0.80.
Above the 5×4 grid sat five coloured pots.
Green wanted knives.
Blue wanted stars.
Orange accepted Molotovs.
Pink collected bullets.
Purple took TNT.
All of them eagerly consumed their matching symbols.
None of that visible feeding actually controlled whether the features triggered.
Chicago Gold 2 LOCKNWINX had constructed an entire weapons-distribution network whose primary mathematical function was atmosphere.
The useful machinery was lower down.
Five little Diamond positions sat beneath the reels.
Those remembered things.
I found that out early when the first Diamond landed and clicked into place.
One filled.
Four empty.
No sirens.
No mob meeting.
Just one small piece of permanent progress sitting underneath a screen where somebody had given TNT its own storage pot.
The first decent base-game incident belonged to the Red Dame.
Cash symbols were scattered across the reels.
2x.
3x.
10x.
Then she landed on reel five.
Everything lit.
She collected all three.
15x the €0.80 stake.
€12.00.
That was the first character on the screen who appeared to understand why there was money lying around.
Chicago Gold 2 LOCKNWINX had men in suits, Wild coins, weapon pots, coloured meters and a cast of Collect characters.
The Red Dame had looked across all of it and chosen the cash.
Correct.
The session then settled into a long stretch of twenty-five paylines doing ordinary twenty-five-payline business.
Small wins.
Dead spins.
Wilds appearing where they could actually help.
Pot symbols continuing their magnificent campaign of looking important.
A Green Knife flew upward.
The green pot swallowed it.
Nothing.
Blue Star.
Gone.
Orange Molotov.
Gone.
Pink Bullets.
Gone.
The top of the screen was effectively running an amnesty programme.
The second Diamond arrived without fanfare.
Then one spin landed two Diamonds together.
Both collected.
Suddenly I had four of five.
That changed the entire session.
The weapon pots could eat a small armoury and I barely looked at them anymore.
I wanted the last Diamond.
A Cash 1x and 5x later shared a spin with the Red Dame on reel five.
Collected.
6x.
€4.80.
Useful.
Still no fifth Diamond.
The spin counter eventually passed fifty and another Loot Collect portrait unlocked.
The crew was expanding.
The Diamond row was not.
Four filled.
One empty.
At €0.80, the Buy menu could have skipped the wait.
Random Any was 100x the bet.
€80.
All 5 Pots Combined was 500x.
€400.
Absolutely not.
I had already found four Diamonds naturally.
Paying four hundred euros because the fifth one was late would have been less a shortcut and more a hostage negotiation with a gemstone.
So I kept spinning.
A purple TNT went into its pot.
Still decorative.
A Pink Bullets symbol fed pink.
Still decorative.
The last Diamond finally landed several spins later.
It dropped into the fifth position.
All five underneath the reels lit together.
That was different.
The entire upper crew came alive.
BOOST.
MULTI.
ZONE.
PATH.
MAXI.
All five pots were active.
The ordinary grid expanded.
Five reels.
Seven rows.
Only the lower four rows started unlocked.
Three more sat above them waiting for Keys.
Three lives appeared.
And one Diamond cell sat over the whole operation, capable of delivering characters, Keys or Bags.
The base game had spent most of the session collecting weapons that did not control anything.
The bonus had replaced that system with a single small penthouse where every important person, key and bag in Chicago apparently had to enter through the same door.
First LOCKNWINX spin.
Cash landed in active rows.
2x.
3x.
5x.
They stayed.
Lives reset.
Next spin added 10x and 1x.
Then the Diamond cell produced a Key.
The first locked row opened immediately.
Five new positions joined the feature.
The game had expanded upward because somebody had finally found the correct key rather than another Molotov.
A new 8x Cash landed in that first unlocked row.
Reset.
Then PATH arrived through the Diamond cell.
A trail cut across the grid.
It crossed the existing 2x and 5x values and boosted them by +3x.
2x became 5x.
5x became 8x.
Two empty positions along the route gained new Cash as the path passed through.
The whole thing looked less like organised crime and more like somebody firing a railgun through a spreadsheet made of banknotes.
Except this time the glowing line actually mattered.
Another ordinary Cash landed.
Then another Key appeared.
That was only the first of the two additional Keys needed for the next row.
No unlock yet.
The Diamond cell was now operating a strict door policy.
One key for the first floor.
Two more for the next.
Three after that.
Apparently even criminals respected progressive access control.
ZONE arrived before the second of those Keys.
A 2×2 Boost Zone appeared over part of the active grid with +2x.
Two empty positions filled with 2x Cash.
An existing 3x became 5x.
The 10x inside the same square moved to 12x.
Four cells had just been rezoned for higher cash density.
Then came the missing Key.
Second extra row unlocked.
Now six of the seven rows were active.
Cash values could arrive higher up there, and the first useful additions were 6x and 12x.
Three lives reset again.
The board was getting crowded.
MULTI entered through the Diamond cell next.
Two Cash values were selected.
The 8x took x2.
16x.
One of the 5x values took x3.
15x.
The Cop Collect had arrived, pointed at two piles of money and made both of them much more suspicious.
There was still one locked row above everything.
It needed three more Keys.
The first arrived.
Later, the second.
Two of three.
Then the highest locked row spun.
A red jackpot Diamond landed inside it.
MAJOR.
500x the bet.
At €0.80, that represented €400.
The row was locked.
It did not participate.
It did not award anything.
The MAJOR sat above six active rows full of cash and managed to be worth exactly zero.
That was the most Chicago Gold thing the session had produced.
A five-hundred-times-bet diamond had successfully entered the building without gaining access to the premises.
I needed one more Key.
Instead I got a 3x Cash in an active row.
Lives reset.
Then 5x.
Reset again.
The MAJOR remained upstairs, glowing behind the lock.
No Key.
First empty spin.
Two lives.
Nothing in the active rows.
Nothing in the Diamond cell.
One life.
The highest row still held the unusable jackpot.
Final spin.
Nothing new.
Zero.
LOCKNWINX ended.
The top locked row disappeared from consideration exactly as the rules had threatened.
No €400 MAJOR.
What remained across the six active rows came to 95x the stake after the PATH boosts, ZONE additions, MULTI hits and the ordinary Cash that had accumulated around them.
At €0.80:
€76.00.
Not a gangster retirement package.
Not MEGA.
Not MAJOR.
But after the long wait for five Diamonds, it had dragged the session back far enough to leave me a little ahead.
The seven-row structure folded back down to the normal 5×4 game.
Five coloured pots were waiting above it again.
Knife.
Star.
Molotov.
Bullets.
TNT.
All ready to be swallowed with tremendous visual importance.
The money had come from five quiet Diamonds underneath the reels.
Chicago Gold 2 had somehow made the TNT pot the harmless one.
The only wild thing about Rotating Element is how it knows when I’m weak.
