Cypher of Ra had reached the point where deciphering an ancient Egyptian secret involved waiting to see whether the sun god could connect some card symbols.
Earlier, at €1.50 a spin, the temple had been much less cooperative.
Six reels sat inside a chamber of purple stone, fire and gold.
Animal-headed figures filled the better positions.
Anubis appeared in blue and gold.
Falcon-headed symbols arrived in red.
Others came in green and purple.
The low symbols were ordinary cards, which looked slightly embarrassed to have been invited into a forgotten chamber of Ra.
The first win was small.
A few matching symbols connected.
They vanished.
New ones dropped into the spaces.
The cascade stopped.
€4.50.
But several positions now carried golden framing.
That became more important than the payment.
On another spin, the same part of the reels connected again.
Symbols disappeared.
The gold around one position intensified.
Then the marking changed.
Eye of Ra.
Wild.
The ancient temple had spent centuries protecting a secret and the first thing I decoded was substitution.
The new Wild helped another group connect.
Those symbols vanished too.
The multiplier above the reels moved.
The chamber flashed.
A fresh set dropped.
Nothing matched.

There were several versions of that.

The feature became less about what landed initially and more about what the temple remembered afterward.
Golden borders stayed around certain positions.
Cracks appeared.
A position that had already been involved in the right kind of action could suddenly stop being an ordinary symbol position and become divine eyesight.
The Eye of Ra Wild appeared again.
This time it connected two groups during the same sequence.
€12 became €19.50 before the cascade finally stopped.
The balance was still drifting rather than climbing.
I kept €1.50.
One Bonus symbol landed near the bottom.
Then another several spins later.
No feature.
A third appeared on a completely different spin, equally useless by itself.
The temple was quite happy to reveal individual pieces of the cypher as long as none of them formed a readable sentence.
Then three BONUS symbols landed together.
The chamber darkened.
Purple light ran up the reels.
Ten Free Spins.
The first one paid almost nothing.
One small group vanished.
No useful follow-up.
The second spin had a golden-framed position sitting in an excellent place and completely ignored it.
Several Egyptian figures arrived.
None formed enough ways together.
The sacred architecture had prepared itself beautifully for inactivity.
Third spin.
A marked position lit.
The symbol inside it changed.
Eye of Ra Wild.
That was where I had opened.
The multiplier sat at x3.
The Wild helped the purple symbols connect.
They disappeared.
Blue Anubis figures fell into the gaps.
Another win.
The golden framing spread across more of the active positions.
Next cascade.
No connection.
The x3 remained as the screen settled.
That spin was useful.
Not large.
More importantly, the temple now had several pieces of the floor looking structurally suspicious.
The next Free Spin used one of them.
A win started low.
Symbols vanished.
The multiplier moved to x4.
One marked position transformed.
Wild.
Another cascade.
Falcon-headed symbols connected through the Eye.

Then a green figure dropped into the wrong column and killed it.

The following spin managed nothing.
There were golden frames across the reels.

Enough sacred animal statues to populate a small afterlife.

Ra had constructed an elaborate cryptographic system and briefly forgotten to include a winning combination.

Several framed positions cracked at once.

Then another.
Two Eyes of Ra were now sitting across the middle of the reels, apparently supervising each other.
The cascade continued.
The blue figures returned around them.
Another win.
More golden framing broke open.
A third Wild appeared.
The multiplier moved again.

The chamber was glowing now.
Fire on both sides.
Gold around half the useful positions.
Three divine eyes embedded in the grid.
Anubis and the falcon-headed symbols dropped around them.
Enough connected.
The win counter moved.
€18.
Then €42.
More symbols vanished.
The x6 stayed above everything.
A fresh cascade landed green animal-headed figures around two of the Wilds.
Another connection.
The payment jumped again.
€76.50.
The symbols broke apart.
New ones dropped.
For a moment the reels looked exhausted.
Then three Anubis figures landed across the centre, with Eye Wilds filling the spaces between them.
Another win.
x6.
The counter passed €100.
Gold flashed through the marked positions.
The whole temple had stopped looking like archaeology and started looking like multiplication wearing a headdress.
One more cascade followed.
Falcon.
Falcon.
Wild.
Green figure.
Enough.
The total from the sequence pushed beyond €180 before the reels finally settled.
No matching group.
The Eyes remained for the end of the spin.
The multiplier stayed displayed above them.
Then the next Free Spin began and the whole puzzle rearranged itself again.
Three spins remained.
The first produced €9.
After the previous excavation, that looked almost polite.
The next brought another useful cascade.
One golden marking transformed into Wild.
The multiplier climbed again, but the symbols around it refused to cooperate.
A sun god had achieved a larger number and nowhere sensible to apply it.
Final Free Spin.
Anubis landed on two reels.
Falcon on another.
An Eye appeared through one marked position.
A small win connected.
Cascade.
One more group.
€21.
Then nothing.
The feature ended.
A little above €300 in total.
The biggest part had not come from the trigger.
Not from the final spin.
Not from one giant premium symbol.
It came from the temple spending several spins quietly marking parts of itself, then suddenly turning enough of those pieces into Wilds while the multiplier was sitting at x6.
The base game returned.
Purple columns.
Fire.
Golden cobras around the reel frame.
The multiplier dropped back into ordinary territory.
I kept the stake at €1.50 for a few more spins.
One cascade paid €6.
Another produced nothing.
Then a small line of 10s connected.
The symbols vanished.
Fresh ones dropped.
The sequence ended immediately.
One golden frame remained around a single 10 near the middle.
No Eye of Ra.
No cascade.
No multiplier climb.
Just one ordinary card symbol sitting inside gold as though the temple had selected it for preservation.
After everything Ra had encoded that afternoon, apparently the final sacred message was 10.
