A J paid twelve cents while a 500x tile slid past on the reel beside it, which felt like an unnecessarily accurate introduction to the situation.
Three reels in the middle were handling the actual symbols. Red jewel, blue jewel, green jewel, A, K, Q, J. Five paylines. Very compact. Almost polite.
Then there was reel four.
Reel four had 10x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 500x and pink Ex Nudge blocks stacked through it like somebody had accidentally attached a second slot to the side of the first one.
Garuda stood beyond that.
Gold wings. Gold armour. Gemstones everywhere. Approximately eight feet of mythological bird muscle watching me play at €0.60.
I had €62.40.
The first several spins belonged to the Js.
Twelve cents.
Another twelve.
A Q improved matters by managing thirty.
Meanwhile reel four kept flashing values that would have been extremely exciting if the first three reels had supplied anything worth multiplying.
A 100x passed beside three completely unrelated symbols.
Then 50x.
Then 20x.
A green gemstone finally crossed a payline and the Special Reel settled somewhere modest enough to keep the entire event smaller than Garuda’s belt buckle.
I kept spinning.
It took surprisingly little time before I stopped watching reels one to three properly.
They had become the entrance requirement.
What I was watching was the strip on the right.
Every spin ended with my eyes moving there first.
Three symbols matched?
Fine.
What did reel four do?
No match?
Next.
Three Ks landed and I barely registered them before checking the multiplier.
x2.
Of course.
The reels had finally managed to coordinate and the golden strip had responded by selecting one of its least interesting numbers.
Then an Ex Nudge 8 appeared on a winning spin.
That was new.
The reels had three Qs lined up. Thirty cents of raw achievement.
Reel four began nudging.
Once.
Again.
Again.
The strip kept moving through multipliers, dragging the whole ceremony out around three Qs worth €0.30.
Eight nudges eventually delivered x5.
The Qs finished at €0.60.
Eight movements.
Sixty cents.
Garuda remained perfectly still.
He had the expression of somebody whose species had waited centuries for this exact calculation.
I kept the stake at €0.60 because increasing it in front of that bird felt less like confidence and more like volunteering.
The balance drifted through the fifties.
A red jewel line helped.
Blue jewels followed a few spins later.
One Wild mask substituted into a green combination and at least looked suitably important while doing it.
The Special Reel continued producing a collection of multipliers with impeccable timing around spins that did not win.
x25 on nothing.
x50 beside nothing.
500x appeared once with three reels containing five different symbols.
That one stayed in my head.
Not because I had missed anything. It had never been attached to a win.
But once you have watched 500x physically pass beside a €0.12 J, every smaller multiplier starts looking underdressed.
Around spin thirty-two, the fourth reel finally stopped showing me a number.
It showed the Wheel Scatter.
The big wheel on the left woke up immediately.
No jewel combination was required. No argument from the first three reels. Reel four had apparently decided it could start its own entertainment whenever it liked.
The wheel spun.
GARUDA went past.
GRAND went past.
MAJOR.
MINOR.
A collection of multiplier prizes.
The pointer slowed over 15x.
€9.00.
That put the balance back to €59.28.
I had spent the opening stretch being bullied by enormous numbers attached to tiny wins, and the actual Wheel had now paid fifteen bets with almost embarrassing efficiency.
Fortune Garuda 500 Jackpot finally had my full attention.
Which was unfortunate, because it spent the next stretch doing almost nothing.
The Wheel Scatter disappeared.
The Wild masks became scarce.
Red gems refused to form a complete line.
One Special Reel result showed x100 beside a dead set of reels and I began to suspect the right-hand strip was decorating itself specifically for funerals.
A blue line paid.
A pair of ordinary symbols almost connected through a Wild and failed.
The balance went back down through the fifties.
I was still ahead of the worst point of the session, but the Wheel money was being fed back in €0.60 pieces and reel four had resumed its hobby of displaying magnificent numbers to unemployed gemstones.
Then three red jewels landed.
All three.
Across a payline.
€1.20.
Not enormous.
But it was one of the better natural combinations available at this stake, and reel four was showing x10.
For once, both halves of the screen had arrived at the same appointment.
Garuda moved.
Light ran across the screen.
The Special Reel changed.
x10 disappeared.
x100 replaced it.
I stopped touching the mouse.
The three red jewels were still sitting there underneath all that gold. They had done their part. Nothing about them had changed. Same red stones. Same line.
Only the number beside them had become completely unreasonable.
€25.20 landed.
The balance jumped to €77.04.
That was larger than the Wheel result.
Considerably larger.
The elaborate twelve-segment wheel with jackpot names, coloured wedges and its permanent position on the left side of the screen had been beaten by three red gemstones because the golden bird beside the reels had suddenly decided x10 lacked ambition.
I looked at Garuda.
Garuda looked exactly as he had before.
Wings open.
Jewels glowing.
Zero evidence that replacing a multiplier with one ten times larger had required effort.
The next spin nearly got pressed automatically.
I stopped.
Not yet.
The Special Reel was still cycling through its usual collection of impossible possibilities. A 25x went past. Then an Ex Nudge 50. Then x3.
I gave it eight more spins.
No change to the stake.
No sudden confidence.
Just eight.
A green jewel line returned €0.72.
Three Js contributed their traditional twelve cents.
A K line arrived with a small multiplier and kept the total alive.
The Wheel Scatter did not come back.
Garuda’s Gift did not return.
The fourth reel flashed x500 once more beside three symbols that had absolutely no relationship with one another.
This time I didn’t chase it.
The eighth spin finished with a blue gemstone on the first reel, an A on the second and a green gemstone on the third.
Nothing.
Reel four stopped on x2.
€73.74 remained.
My hand stayed away from Spin.
The Wheel was still sitting on the left with GARUDA and GRAND waiting among its coloured slices. The Special Reel had already started glowing for the next round. Garuda stood beside the whole arrangement in full gold armour, completely prepared to supervise another twelve-cent J if necessary.
He could do it without me.
Sahara Riches Megaways Collect Em doesn’t have symbols. It has warnings.
