Lava Gold is a 5 reel video slot that features a Cluster Pays mechanism. It has an RTP of just over 96%, volatility somewhere between low and medium and a maximum win amount of €16184 (on maxbet).

For this release Betsoft have come up with a volcano themed slot that certainly looks the part including a meter with symbols that needs to be filled up to have the volcano erupt. Its something that we have seen on other Volcano themed slot but the cluster pays mechanism on Lava Gold is relatively unique and quite interesting.

When you get a group of 5 symbols or more in a cluster the spaces that are removed are filled by symbols next to those space, this keeps (or can keep) happening until the whole screen is taken up by one single symbol in which case the spin ends. You can see how this could result in frequent wins and single spins that last a long time (delivering lots of prizes) and this is certainly what seems to happen going by our playing experience.

As you would expect however it can take quite a bit of time to fill up the meter on the right side of the reels, the lower paying symbols being more frequent means they are eliminated relatively easy but the top three are a bit more difficult.  Manage it however and you are awarded 10 free spins with an increasing multiplier.

The free spins round does not work the same way as the base game, there is just the central reel which is filled up with a matching symbol then the rest of the reels are revealed and a single prize is awarded for each spin. It’s a shame that Betsoft have not managed to make the free spins last longer than the base game but this was likely next to impossible to implement. Thanks to the multiplier though it is still possible to get a big win.

Overall though its great to see Betsoft come up with a slot like this, we definitely enjoyed playing it, the base game takes a bit of getting used too and sometimes it does remind us of a cash register with the clunky win sound but its worth a spin or two if you like lower volatility slots.
