Smokey had somehow progressed from fake Frenchman to commander of monsters without changing the hat very much.

That was impressive.

Paris sat behind the reels in blue and green underworld light, rooftops and domes still visible while enormous spectral shapes drifted across the sky. On the left, something that looked like a possessed metal jaw with teeth was hanging over the city. On the right, a giant stone doorway waited under a skull while Smokey stood in front of it wearing his red coat, top hat and moustache like he had personally opened Hell and still expected applause for the tailoring.

I started with €46.30 at €0.40.

If the monsters wanted Paris, they could finance the occupation themselves.

The six reels were full of objects that looked as though somebody had emptied a supernatural burglar’s backpack onto the street. Crystal shards in a paper bag. Green potion bottles. Books covered in symbols. Rolled bundles that looked one spark away from becoming somebody else’s problem. Letters floated between them because apparently the alphabet had also joined the invasion.

Clusters formed early.

Five matching symbols connected, disappeared and let new ones fall into the gaps. Then another little group connected. The cascades gave the city the feeling of constantly losing pieces of itself while Smokey stood beside the gate with the calm expression of someone who had absolutely planned all of this.

A win left marked positions behind.

Green-edged squares.

Those became interesting immediately.

In the base game they were temporary. If a Rainbow arrived during the same spin, the marked ground could reveal Coins, Clovers or Bags of Gold. If nothing happened, the next spin wiped the evidence clean.

That made every cluster feel slightly unfinished.

The win was one thing.

The square underneath it was another.

A cluster of potion bottles disappeared and marked several positions. Fresh symbols fell.

No Rainbow.

Gone next spin.

The forest around Paris had just buried treasure and paved over it forty cents later.

Another cascade produced marks across the lower-left part of the grid.

Still no Rainbow.

Smokey remained on the right with his shovel, which started to feel pointed.

He was apparently standing beside a city where winning positions could reveal money and doing absolutely none of the digging.

The balance drifted down.

Not sharply.

A few clusters paid.

A group of crystal bags returned something decent. A book cluster connected later. One Wild helped bridge another set.

The monster head appeared among the higher symbols and looked significantly more dangerous than the amount it paid.

That was fitting.

Paris had creatures pouring out of a gate and my biggest concern was whether six identical books could touch each other.

By the time thirty-two spins had passed, €41.10 remained.

Several good-looking marked areas had already existed and vanished without a Rainbow ever bothering to show up.

The city was full of missed archaeological opportunities.

Then three FS symbols landed.

The same spin still managed a cluster for €0.80.

The screen changed.

Luck of the Monsters.

Eight Free Spins.

Smokey stayed beside the gate.

The important part was not the extra spins.

It was memory.

Now Marked Squares remained between spins until a Rainbow finally activated them.

The grid could accumulate history.

That was dangerous.

The first Free Spin produced a small cluster. Symbols vanished. Four positions stayed marked.

Next spin.

More symbols fell around them.

Another cluster created three more marks.

Seven little green-edged squares now remained across the grid.

I started watching them instead of the monsters.

One square near the centre had already survived two spins.

Another sat near the bottom waiting for absolutely anything interesting to happen.

Smokey’s invasion had become property management.

The marked areas were the neighbourhoods.

Everything else was weather.

The first couple of wins only returned €2.00 in total, but the grid was getting more interesting with every cascade. A Rainbow would now have something to work with.

Then four FS symbols landed together.

Four.

The feature changed.

All That Glitters Is Gold.

Four more Free Spins were added.

More importantly, the marked positions stopped being temporary even after Rainbow activation. Once highlighted, they could remain part of the feature for the duration.

The entire grid had just been told it was allowed to remember its own crimes.

That changed everything.

The next few spins added more clusters.

More marked squares.

A potion group vanished.

Books connected.

A Wild helped another cluster through.

The marked territory expanded to twelve positions.

Twelve.

Almost half the useful parts of the grid now had unfinished treasure business.

Smokey was still standing there.

Top hat.

Moustache.

Shovel.

At this point the shovel felt insulting.

The man was surrounded by marked ground and had somehow delegated all excavation to a Rainbow.

Then it came.

Rainbow symbol.

The marked squares activated.

That was the moment the monster invasion temporarily stopped mattering.

A Bronze Coin appeared.

1x.

Small.

Then Silver.

5x.

Better.

A Gold Coin revealed itself at 25x.

Now we were getting somewhere.

Another marked square produced a Four-Leaf Clover.

x3.

It sat beside the Gold Coin.

The Clover activated.

The 25x Gold became 75x.

There it was.

The feature had taken one respectable gold coin and exposed it to a plant.

The plant tripled it.

No spell book.

No monster.

No potion.

Agriculture.

The fifth reveal was a Bag of Gold.

Small red sack.

Coins sticking out of the top.

The kind of bag that always looks too cheerful about the fact that its entire purpose is taking other money.

It activated after the Clover had finished.

The Bronze Coin sat at 1x.

The Silver at 5x.

The Gold had been pushed to 75x.

The Bag collected them.

One.

Five.

Seventy-five.

81x stored.

€32.40 at the forty-cent stake.

That was the hit.

Not some roaring creature.

Not a hidden epic monster.

Not Smokey’s wand.

A Clover had tripled a coin and a bag had walked through afterward picking up the pieces.

Paris was being overrun by creatures from another world and the most effective thing on screen was basic treasure gardening.

The best part was that All That Glitters Is Gold kept the marked squares alive.

The Rainbow had activated them, but the positions stayed highlighted.

They were not finished.

The same patches of ground could keep participating.

The city had developed renewable treasure.

That was where the feature became properly absurd.

A square that had started as the remains of a potion-bottle cluster had now survived several spins, been opened by a Rainbow, produced treasure and remained relevant afterward.

I started recognising individual cells.

The centre-right square was productive.

The one near the bottom had done nothing useful and was clearly cursed.

Another high on the left had already been involved twice.

Smokey could keep his monsters.

I had neighbourhood opinions now.

Later spins produced smaller reveals.

Another Coin.

A modest Clover interaction.

No second 75x Gold.

No enormous chain of Bags consuming Bags until the entire city disappeared into one sack.

Good.

The main event had already happened.

A few ordinary clusters added another €1.60 around the edges while the marked positions continued glowing.

The monsters remained part of the scenery.

That felt increasingly disrespectful to them.

One of the symbols was an actual purple creature with glowing eyes.

Another was a spellbook.

There were potion bottles.

The city itself looked partially haunted.

And I was staring at green squares because one of them might reveal a five-times coin.

The feature finished at €38.40.

The balance moved to €79.90.

I had started below €47.

That was enough.

Smokey had opened the underworld, Paris had survived, a Four-Leaf Clover had become the strongest financial actor in the city and one Bag of Gold had collected 81 times the stake after doing almost nothing visually except sit there looking full.

The base game returned.

The marked positions lost their permanence.

That felt wrong immediately.

A cluster formed.

Squares lit.

No Rainbow.

Next spin, clean grid.

After the feature, that looked wasteful.

Paris had gone from renewable supernatural property rights back to one-spin leases.

I kept the stake at €0.40.

No reason to change anything.

The feature had already done the heavy lifting.

A Rainbow appeared later after a small cluster and activated only a few marks.

The reveals were ordinary.

A small Bronze Coin.

Nothing transformational.

No Clover tripling Gold.

No Bag arriving after the multiplication.

Just treasure behaving responsibly.

Disappointing.

Smokey remained beside the door.

Still wearing the moustache.

Still holding the shovel.

Still apparently in command of monsters that were now roaming the city because he had opened the gate.

The whole scene suggested he had expected a dramatic criminal empire and accidentally invented a landscaping problem.

The final sixteen spins returned €2.80.

The balance settled at €76.30.

Thirty euros above the starting point.

The numbers were good.

But the thing that stayed with me was not the balance.

It was that one chain.

A marked square reveals Gold.

Gold shows 25x.

A Clover grows next to it.

The Clover turns 25x into 75x.

A Bag of Gold appears afterward and collects 81x across the nearby values.

All while Smokey stands beside an open monster gate in Paris dressed like a raccoon who lost a bet about formalwear.

The creatures remained loose.

The marked squares vanished with the final spin.

The Rainbow was gone.

Smokey still had the shovel.

For once, that seemed appropriate.

Somebody was going to have to clean up.

Easter Eggspedition is what RNG would code during a breakdown.
