I watched him do it.
One was standing on reel two with a trumpet.

The reels stood in the middle of a night-time cemetery filled with candles, marigold petals and brightly painted skulls.
There was a small town behind the graves.
Music came from somewhere off-screen.
Several skeletons wandered between the headstones as though this was less a cemetery and more a neighbourhood event that happened to have extremely relaxed admission requirements.
The symbols were guitars, sugar skulls, candles, roses, bottles and decorated masks.
The first few spins were quiet.

Three guitars returned €4.20.
Then a candle symbol landed.
It did not pay.
It stayed glowing on reel three while a small counter above the reels moved to 1/4.

The candles did not remain physically on the reels, but the counter did.
That was enough to make me watch it.

He crossed the marigold path.

That was where I started.

The slot had already summoned half the local afterlife, allowed a mariachi to steal a multiplier in public and paid me more than three times the starting balance.
Anything after that would have been greed disguised as research.
I gave it one final €1.50 spin.

I stopped at €360.80.
As I closed the game, the trumpet skeleton was still standing beside one of the graves.
He had returned to x2.
He looked considerably less important.
I left before he remembered where the x10 had gone.
