Lady Fortune kept sending her regards without coming over.

Two Free Spins shields were already on the table when I got properly trapped. One sat low on the second reel. The other had climbed higher and was looking down on the board like it had paid for better seating. The third place was wide open. Empty enough to feel deliberate. Then the drop came in with three green cubes and a moon tile and the whole room carried on as if that answered anything.

It was one of those velvet parlours built for people who enjoy being handled slowly. Dark wood. Cards around the frame with suns and crescents on them. Gold trim. Curtains drawn back on both sides as if privacy had been arranged in advance. Six reels, four rows, all those clean little cubes and polished symbols falling into place with the hush of objects that know they’ll be touched again in a moment. And in the middle of all that, Lady Fortune, drifting in and out whenever she pleased with numbers hanging behind her like future relatives.

I had not checked the bet yet.

That is a lie of omission. I had checked it earlier. I just stopped respecting it once the table began arranging things on purpose.

The first part of the night had been harmless enough on paper. A few cubes. Small clears. A neat little win with red symbols. Then an orb had landed and left a number behind Lady Fortune’s reel. Then another orb on a later spin. The actual wins on those spins were background noise. The numbers stayed. They made the room feel furnished.

That is how Orb of Destiny does it. Nothing grand at first. It just starts leaving tomorrow lying around.

Once a few numbers were stacked behind her, every Lady Fortune symbol became personal. Not magical. Personal. She would arrive on a board that almost suited her and pay enough to keep the table warm. Or she would arrive on a board with no manners at all and leave me with this irritating sense that I had been shown the nice china but not fed from it.

The balance had slipped from €93 to somewhere in the high eighties while I was doing all this, but that only became relevant much later, when I started pretending I had a relationship with the furniture.

There was one spin early on where purple cubes cleared, then gold suns, then another drop, and Lady Fortune landed with two fine multipliers sitting behind her from earlier orbs. The board looked expensive for half a second. It paid €7-something. Not enough to be loud. Enough to make the next spin feel like it had been invited to continue the conversation.

That was the one that got me sitting there with manners.

By the time the two shields settled into place and the third failed to appear, I was no longer waiting for free spins in any broad, healthy sense. I wanted that exact entry. The table half-open. Lady Fortune nearby. A little value stored behind her. The shields laid out like polite threats. A third one dropping in with the kind of confidence a room like that believes it deserves.

Instead I got green cubes.

They connected.
They paid a little.
They left the shields where they were.

The table had a way of doing that. It would answer in the wrong dialect and act proud of itself for answering at all.

I was on €1.00. I remember because I changed it later and resented the reason.

At that stage the table was still speaking in near-misses and tasteful little refusals. Two shields. No third. A Lady Fortune with decent numbers behind her and no board around her. Orbs landing after she’d already gone. Re-spins beginning with real promise and then turning into a discussion about cubes. Everything kept arriving one spin away from the thing I’d actually stayed for.

Not one big thing.
A shape.

That is what made it so expensive. If the room had simply shouted “bonus” at me, I could have behaved accordingly. Instead it kept giving me half a reading and expecting gratitude.

I got two more shields together again about ten minutes later. Not the same positions. Different pair. One in the middle. One on the right. The board cleared underneath them, re-spun once, and for a bright second the whole table had that held-breath look of a woman about to say something exact. The third drop came in with blue cubes and a sun tile.

I said “that is not what we were doing” to the screen in a voice so calm it embarrassed me.

The spin paid €3.20 and the shields disappeared with all the composure of guests who had already decided not to stay for dinner.

I moved the bet to €1.20 after that.

Not because I wanted more money. Because the refusals were getting too polished for €1.00. That was the sort of reasoning the room encouraged. Better drapes, better stake. It made complete sense while I was in there and no sense at all the moment I phrase it plainly.

At €1.20 the table became even more itself.

An orb landed.
A second orb landed.
Lady Fortune showed up with a row of values behind her that looked fit for a much better board.
The board gave her green cubes and one low symbol and expected me to call it fate.

It paid just enough to take me back over €90 and not enough to settle the matter.

Then came the handsome spin. Not the one I wanted. The one the table chose instead.

Red cubes cleared first.
A re-spin.
Gold suns dropped into the middle.
Another re-spin.
Lady Fortune on reel four, carrying a nice line of future value behind her.
Then more cubes fell in under that and connected twice in a row.

That spin rose in clean stages and carried me to €109 with the sort of practiced grace that makes a person forgive things he had no business forgiving. The cards around the frame looked pleased. The curtains kept their counsel. Lady Fortune had finally sat down in the right chair and stayed long enough to matter.

Any sensible person would have taken that as the room settling its debt.

Instead I mistook it for precedent.

The next twenty spins were all second opinions. Shields turning up in twos. Once, even three, but not in the right arrangement and not on a board that would have done anything good with them. I cannot overstate how much this bothered me. The table had started offering bonus in ugly handwriting. A proper three-shield entry would have had posture. What I got was a bent little version of it, and when the feature opened at last it did so under circumstances too shabby for the room.

That should have cured me.

It didn’t.

Inside the free spins the parlour became efficient. Lady Fortune appeared more often. The orbs had clearer work to do. Re-spins came through. One decent sequence paid properly, enough to lift me from the low hundreds toward €118. Another looked richer and paid less, which felt in character for a room full of cards and delayed answers. The feature did its job. It handed over money. It did not hand over satisfaction.

Because the thing I’d wanted all evening was not “the feature.” It was that particular dignified entry through three shields on a table already warmed by orbs and expectation. The feature that finally arrived had come in with its hem crooked.

When it ended I was sitting at €121 and some change.

That should have been the end. Pleasant start at €93. Small civilized stake. One good base-chain. A bonus that paid with acceptable manners. No need to keep interrogating velvet.

I dropped back to €1.00 and stayed.

Not for long in clock terms. Very long in table terms.

A shield appeared. Then another. Lady Fortune arrived with lovely numbers and poor company. Orbs kept laying down better futures for the wrong next spin. Once the board cleared in exactly the first two places I wanted and then stopped as if somebody had touched my wrist under the table and advised restraint.

That was the nearest it came. Not the bonus. Not the handsome spin from earlier. A single almost-arrangement near the end where everything in the room gathered itself and then declined to proceed.

After that I no longer wanted profit. I wanted the table to admit what it had been hinting at for the last hour.

It did not.

I stopped at €107 and some change on a spin where two shields sat side by side again, Lady Fortune had numbers behind her, and the drop came in green.

The room seemed very satisfied with that. I left it to enjoy itself.

Lucky Multifruit Crystal Dust doesn’t end. It resets the trauma.

🔥 The bonus arrived late, but the timestamp got there first.
