The Grim Reaper had spent eternity collecting souls and still couldn’t get five green circles to hold hands.
A 10 Free Games tombstone waited on the sixth reel.
My Connect & Collect chain began correctly on the far left.
Reel two joined.
Reel three joined.
Reel four joined.
Reel five contributed absolutely nothing.
The chain stopped.
Ten Free Games remained illuminated on the far right, separated from me by one missing green symbol and what now felt like several centuries of cemetery planning.
I was playing €1.80.
The Reaper stood beside the reels in a purple hood, skeletal hand wrapped around a scythe, with GRAND 4,800 glowing above him.
MAJOR 240.
MINOR 30.
On the opposite side, the special reel was stacked with things worth reaching.
Free Games.
Money Values.
MINORs.
Mystery prizes.
The ordinary five reels, meanwhile, were full of hooded Reapers, bells, candles, ornate symbols and letters doing their best to ensure none of that treasure developed accessibility.
Next spin.
A Connect & Collect symbol landed on reel one.
Another touched it on reel two.
The chain reached a special position on reel three showing €6.00.
Green light travelled across the connection.
€6.00 collected.
Good.
The Reaper had successfully moved six euros across approximately half a cemetery.
Reaper Riches: Connect & Collect had established the transport network.
The problem was distance.
Anything sitting on reel three felt obtainable.
The sixth reel looked like an illuminated mausoleum brochure.
A few ways wins drifted through.
€0.60 from bells.
€0.48 from one ornate connection.
Several hooded Reapers lined up but stopped early.
Then the sixth reel showed 15 Free Games.
My chain reached reel three and died.
Next spin it displayed a Mystery Bonus Prize.
The green symbols made it to reel four.
Stopped.
The Mystery sat there in its stone frame.
Behind that question mark could have been a fixed credit prize, MINOR, MAJOR, even GRAND territory from the wheel.
None of that mattered.
The chain had failed three metres before the front door.
Another spin added Connect & Collect symbols randomly across the ordinary reels.
For half a second the graveyard looked prepared.
Reel one.
Reel two.
A link through three.
Another on four.
Reel five landed one position too far away to touch.
The symbols were all present.
They had simply chosen different parts of the cemetery.
The Reaper watched from the left with a scythe capable of separating a soul from a body.
Apparently diagonal coordination remained outside his remit.
Then came another Free Games tombstone on the sixth reel.
Again.
This time the first Connect & Collect landed low on reel one.
A second touched it on reel two.
The chain climbed.
Reel three connected.
Reel four carried it upward.
A green symbol on reel five landed beside the last link.
The entire chain lit.
Across five reels.
Into the sixth.
The 10 Free Games tombstone flashed.
Reached.
The game added the small Free Games award attached to the trigger, then the cemetery opened.
Ten Free Games.
No purchase.
No button.
The green procession had finally completed its funeral route without losing anyone behind a candle.
The special reel stayed active during the feature.
That immediately became dangerous.
Second Free Game.
A chain reached a Money Value.
€12.00.
Straight into the total.
The next couple of spins were quieter.
Connect & Collect symbols appeared, but the paths fractured.
One chain started beautifully and then wandered into a gap on reel four.
Another reached a special position on reel three that did not turn into the route I wanted toward the sixth.
Then both Soul Storm and Add Wilds sat within reach on the same spin.
The chain connected.
Everything changed.
The Soul Storm fired.
Hooded Reaper symbols appeared across random positions on the first five reels.
Add Wilds followed.
Wilds dropped among them.
The graveyard had solved a connectivity problem by introducing more Death and several universal adapters.
A Reaper route stretched across the reels through the added Wilds.
More ways formed around it.
€8.40.
The Reaper character on the left raised the scythe.
For once he had participated in his own game rather than supervising green circles.
Six Free Games remained.
A small ways win brought €1.80.
Then another sixth-reel tombstone appeared.
7 Free Games.
The Connect & Collect symbols started from reel one.
Reel two joined.
Three.
Four.
Five.
The chain reached the special reel.
Seven more games.
The counter jumped.
I had entered with ten and was now being kept in the cemetery for another seven because the dead apparently offered extensions.
The same reached Free Games symbol added its trigger value as well.
€3.60.
The feature now had enough remaining spins to become confident.
That was unfortunate.
Three consecutive games produced almost nothing.
A Connect & Collect chain reached reel three but missed the useful special position.
Another spin showed a Mystery Bonus Prize on reel six while the chain died on reel two.
Then Add Wilds appeared and remained unreachable.
The special reel was becoming a shop window for the afterlife.
Everything displayed beautifully.
Nothing had a pedestrian entrance.
A small combination eventually paid €2.70.
Several games later, another gave €1.20.
One late chain reached far enough to activate more help and the resulting ways settled at €4.50.
The feature total reached €34.20.
There were still spins left.
The Reaper was still glowing.
The sixth reel continued rotating valuable tombstones past me.
The final stretch went cold.
One Free Games symbol showed 15.
No chain.
A MINOR appeared.
The first green link never got beyond reel two.
Last Free Game.
A Mystery Bonus Prize arrived on the sixth reel.
Question mark.
Golden frame.
Exactly the sort of object that had spent the whole session looking expensive from a distance.
Connect & Collect landed on reel one.
Another on two.
A third carried the chain into reel three.
Reel four joined.
Then nothing usable on reel five.
The green light stopped there.
Mystery prize untouched.
The feature ended at €34.20.
The long chase before it had already eaten more than that.
Back in the base game, the Reaper returned to his usual position beside the reels.
Scythe in hand.
GRAND above his head.
The sixth reel kept turning.
One last prize passed by on the far right.
The Reaper could apparently cross eternity.
My chain still couldn’t cross reel five.
Grim the Splitter Dream Drop doesn’t load fast. It calculates my breaking point.
