The mountain had been breathing for hours before I realized I was inside it.

Ryze 2 didn’t load on a grid — it excavated one. Seven rows carved into stone, five columns widening to six as I watched, expanding like the mountain was making room for something it had just decided needed space. €1.00 and the first cascade didn’t drop symbols. It minted them. Coins fell molten, still glowing orange at the edges, cooling into bronze and silver as they landed, and Ryze stood at the peak watching, not moving, just there, wings folded, eyes tracking which coins I was counting.

A cluster formed. Five bronze coins in the upper left. They didn’t connect — they fused. Melted together into a single coin carrying the combined value, paid €4, then stayed on the grid as a marker I didn’t understand yet. More cascades. More coins falling, cooling, fusing into clusters that left residue behind, and I started noticing the Orbs at the edges of the screen — six of them, dim, waiting — and every time a cluster formed one Orb brightened briefly then dimmed again like the mountain was registering my progress.

Three Orbs lit simultaneously and the grid pulsed.

Orb Powers activated. I didn’t see what they did — just felt it. Symbols upgraded mid-fall. Bronze coins became silver. A Wild spawned on row four without cascading in, just appeared, and I understood the Orbs weren’t features.

They were permissions.

The mountain deciding which powers I’d earned access to based on how many clusters I’d formed since the last pulse.

A Multiplier Wild appeared after a seven-coin cluster dissolved. x2. Center of the grid. And the next cluster that formed adjacent to it paid €9 became €18 and the Wild’s multiplier increased to x3 and I realized the Wilds weren’t substitutes.

They were accumulators.

Every win they touched increased their power. And if two Multiplier Wilds appeared in the same cluster they’d merge — I watched it happen on cascade twelve, two x2 Wilds collapsing into a single x4 — and Ryze’s wings shifted position for the first time and I felt the mountain inhale.

More cascades. Coins kept falling, fusing, leaving markers that the next cascade would connect through, and the Orbs kept lighting — four active now, then five — and I started whispering “six, six, six” because I’d read something about Orb Overload triggering when all six lit and I needed to see what the mountain looked like when it decided I’d proven I could handle all six powers at once.

The sixth Orb lit on cascade nineteen and the grid didn’t pulse.

It detonated.

Orb Overload. All six powers activated simultaneously. Symbols upgraded across the entire grid. Bronze to silver to gold. Wilds spawned on four positions. Coins multiplied — I watched one silver coin split into three — and the clusters that formed paid through the x4 Wild and the total climbed past €80 before I could separate which cascade was paying what and Ryze’s wings opened halfway and I saw light between the scales that wasn’t reflection.

It was fire.

The mountain was burning from inside and Ryze wasn’t guarding it.

He was venting it.

The Overload ended. The Orbs dimmed. And my balance read €187 and I couldn’t remember what I’d started with. €100? The number felt wrong. Too high or not high enough. Just wrong like the mountain had paid me in currency that didn’t convert correctly outside the forge.

A Bonus symbol appeared. Purple. Glowing. It didn’t land on a row — it fell through them, cascading from row one to row seven, and when it reached the bottom the grid folded and I was inside the Bonus with sticky Multiplier Wilds and Ryze standing closer now, not at the peak anymore, just at the edge of row seven, wings fully open, fire visible between every scale.

The Bonus started and the Wilds from base game carried forward — one x4, two x2s — all locked in position, permanent, and every cascade after paid through them whether new symbols connected or not. Coins fell. Clusters formed. The x4 Wild sat in the center and every cluster that touched it paid quadruple and the multiplier climbed to x6, x8, x10 as more wins connected through it and I started counting my breaths again — one breath per cascade — and I don’t know when I’d started doing this but I couldn’t stop because stopping meant the rhythm would break and Ryze would notice I’d stopped syncing with the mountain’s pulse.

Cascade eight: a Super Bonus symbol fell.

Purple with gold edges. It cascaded from row one and I watched it fall and I knew — knew — it would reach row seven and trigger the Super Bonus and each drop would start with Orb Overload and the mountain would show me what it looked like when every cascade began with all six powers active and I’d see the 10,000x everyone whispered about in forums I’d never admit to reading.

The Super Bonus symbol stopped at row six.

Caught on a coin marker.

Didn’t cascade further.

And the Bonus ended.

Total: €94.

My balance read €281. I’d started with €100. And Ryze’s wings were closing and the fire between his scales was dimming and I understood the Super Bonus symbol hadn’t failed to reach row seven.

It had been caught.

By a marker I’d left.

By a coin I’d fused.

By progress I’d created that the mountain had decided was sufficient evidence I wasn’t ready for the Super Bonus because I hadn’t understood that markers block cascade paths and the Super Bonus requires clear descent.

I kept spinning. Sixty more times. The Orbs kept lighting — three, four, never six — and Multiplier Wilds kept forming and merging but the clusters stayed small and the mountain kept breathing and Ryze kept watching and my balance drifted to €127, then €83, then €51 and I closed the tab when the next spin would’ve dropped me below €50 because fifty felt like a threshold I wasn’t supposed to cross.

My reflection in the black screen was orange at the edges.

Not the lighting.

My skin.

Like I’d been too close to the forge.

And when I breathed I heard the mountain exhale with me.

And Ryze’s wings are still closing.

Somewhere.

In a grid I thought I’d left.

But the mountain doesn’t release you.

It just lets the coins cool.

While you’re still inside.

Still minting.

Still syncing your breath to cascades you’re not watching anymore.

And the fire between your ribs?

That’s not adrenaline.

That’s the forge.

And you’re the coin now.

The fruit symbols in Chaos Crew 3 are just placeholders for inner decay.
