The first Phantom Orb landed over a treasure chest.
Purple smoke.
Little glowing thing.
Ancient tomb.
Three sarcophagi waiting beside the reels.
The orb vanished.
The chest underneath appeared.
Nothing else happened.
That was it.
A phantom had travelled through whatever part of the afterlife handled floating coloured fire, covered a treasure chest for one spin and left.
I kept the bet at €1.00.
The mummy masks stared out of the reels.
Winged urns landed.
Black symbols crawled down the stone.
A Wild appeared once and helped a small line for €1.40.
The sarcophagi remained shut.
Green stone coffin.
Orange stone coffin.
Purple stone coffin.
Three dead faces carved into the tops.
All waiting for something.
Another Phantom Orb arrived several spins later.
This one disappeared into the collection trail.
The Sticky Wild count climbed.
No feature.
The symbol underneath returned to the world.
The tomb continued.
I had stopped trusting the orbs already.
Wild Tomb Nightmare had managed to make coloured ghost fire feel like somebody knocking on a coffin and running away.
The next few spins stayed quiet.
A winged urn line returned €1.20.
Letters crossed for €0.80.
A mummy portrait landed with absolutely no supernatural consequence, which in this place almost felt refreshing.
Then another orb appeared on reel six.
Green this time.
Collected.
The counter moved again.
Still no mode.
The green sarcophagus did not open.
Its carved mummy face remained inside the stone.
The orb had effectively floated across a haunted crypt to increase a number by one.
Fine.
I now had four Sticky Wilds waiting somewhere behind the wall.
The tomb just refused to use them.
That became the fixation.
Not Free Spins.
Not the Scatter trail.
Not the Wild itself.
Four Wilds had been accumulated for a mode that had not started.
I wanted to see where the tomb was keeping them.
The base game kept dropping funeral objects in front of me.
Chest.
Urn.
Mummy.
Dark letters.
More chests.
One Wild crossed a line and returned €2.00.
Then another Phantom Orb arrived.
Purple.
It covered the last reel in a violet flame.
The thing collected.
This time the tomb reacted.
The purple sarcophagus lit.
Its stone face opened.
Sticky Wild Mode.
There they were.
Four Wilds landed around the reels in bright green frames.
The first had gone near the left.
Another sat high.
One dropped toward the middle.
The fourth went lower on the opposite side.
Five paid spins.
Same €1.00 stake.
Then the purple coffin started interfering.
One of those Sticky Wilds changed.
Duplicating Wild.
The sarcophagus opened and the Wild spat three more Wilds into the tomb.
One landed in a fresh position.
Another landed somewhere useful enough to complete a line.
The third landed directly on top of an existing Sticky Wild.
That square flashed.
x2.
The tomb had just buried a Wild inside another Wild.
Apparently one corpse per sarcophagus was a rule for people, not symbols.
The first paid spin finished at €4.50.
The green-framed Wilds stayed.
The x2 stayed.
Everything else moved on.
Second paid spin.
New symbols dropped around the fixed Wilds.
A regular Wild landed.
Not somewhere fresh.
Directly on the x2 position.
x3.
Same square.
Again.
The tomb contained dozens of spaces.
This one position had now received three separate supernatural occupants.
The line running through it connected.
€6.00.
The sarcophagi glowed at the side.
The purple one looked increasingly responsible.
The mummy inside appeared to have discovered that burial was more efficient if you simply kept using the same hole.
Third paid spin.
The Duplicating sarcophagus activated again.
Another Sticky Wild changed.
Purple energy.
More Wilds fired onto the reels.
One appeared high.
One landed low.
And one went straight into the same multiplier position.
x4.
That square now contained enough Wild history to need excavation equipment.
The rest of the symbols did not cooperate.
A smaller line elsewhere returned €2.00.
The x4 had achieved absolutely nothing on that spin.
Four layers of supernatural Wild packed into one position.
No winning line through it.
The tomb had built a cursed monument and then routed the symbols around it.
I stopped looking at the other Sticky Wilds.
That one square had become the burial chamber.
x2 had entered.
Then x3.
Then x4.
Every time something duplicated, I checked that position first.
Fourth paid spin.
The reels turned around the fixed green frames.
A Wild landed.
The square I was watching lit again.
x5.
Five.
The rest of the reel stopped.
A mummy mask landed left of it.
Matching symbols continued through the multiplier.
This time the x5 was actually part of the win.
The line hit.
Another smaller line crossed one of the ordinary Sticky Wilds too.
€13.00 in total.
The sarcophagus had finally packed enough Wild into the same grave for the rest of the tomb to acknowledge it.
The purple coffin stayed open beside the reels.
The mummy face inside looked exactly as dead as before.
Understandable.
Its main activity for the evening had been launching duplicate Wilds into existing Wilds.
One paid spin remained.
The Sticky Wilds still occupied the grid.
x5 in the same position.
Several normal green-framed Wilds scattered around it.
The final spin started.
A chest stopped near the left.
Mummy symbol.
Low symbols.
One regular Wild landed elsewhere.
No increase on the x5.
For the first time in several spins, the tomb had found another place to put one.
A line formed through two Sticky Wilds.
Not the x5.
€6.00.
Then everything ended.
Five paid spins had gone in.
€31.50 had come back.
The green frames disappeared.
The x5 vanished with them.
The purple sarcophagus closed.
The reels returned to their ordinary dark stone.
My balance showed €108.60.
I had entered the mode at €82.10.
The tomb had spent five paid spins duplicating Wilds, reburying them in the same position and eventually turning one cell into x5.
Now that square was completely ordinary again.
I gave the base game eight more €1.00 spins.
The first few brought almost nothing.
A chest line returned €1.10.
Later, low symbols managed another €1.00.
The sarcophagi stayed shut.
A Scatter appeared once and added itself to the trail.
No Free Spins.
A Wild landed without anybody converting, duplicating or expanding it.
It looked strangely underdressed.
Then the last spin arrived.
Purple Phantom Orb.
Reel six.
Same colour that had opened the Duplicating sarcophagus before.
It landed over a symbol and glowed.
I watched the purple coffin.
The orb collected.
The symbol underneath appeared.
Nothing triggered.
No Sticky Wild Mode.
No sarcophagus.
No Wild.
No coffin opening.
Just the tomb again.
Final balance: €102.70.
€8.00 ahead.
Three sarcophagi stood beside the reels.
The purple one was closed.
The last Phantom Orb had come all the way back from the dead to achieve absolutely nothing.
That felt like the correct place to leave a nightmare.
Every reel in Gates of Hellfire spins with passive aggression.
