The mummy walked across Christmas carrying a pile of cash.
He was wearing a Santa hat.
This raised several questions about both Egypt and December, none of which survived the arrival of money.
I was three spins into €1.20.
Snow sat across the roofs. Pyramids stood behind a town full of Christmas lights. Palm trees had been forced into winter. Above the reels, three large wrapped-looking pots waited beneath red, green and purple decoration.
And across the front went a dead Egyptian in festive headwear with enough cash in his arms to suggest the afterlife had seasonal work.
The reels stopped mattering.
The mummy crossed.
The screen changed.
Fifteen covered Mystery symbols appeared.
I started picking.
Minor.
Something else.
Another Minor.
Grand showed once and immediately behaved like a Christmas present with somebody else’s name on it.
Another tile.
Minor.
Three matched.
€12.
The mummy had crossed an entire snowy Egyptian town carrying cash to hand me twelve euros.
Reasonable delivery charge.
Back to the reels.
The ordinary symbols were almost more confusing after that.
Egyptian queen.
Blue jackal.
Bird-headed figure.
Crocodile.
Stone letters.
Wild.
Every one of them surrounded by Christmas colour.
The mummy itself was already wrapped more thoroughly than anything under a tree. The Santa hat felt less like a costume and more like somebody had decided the existing bandages lacked seasonal commitment.
A few lines paid.
€2.40.
Nothing.
Wild with a queen for €4.20.
Two blanks.
A Gem landed and flew upward into one of the pots.
Then another colour did the same a few spins later.
The pots swallowed them.
No lid opened.
The reels continued.
The mummy appeared normally on reel one.
No cash this time.
Just one wrapped corpse occupying one symbol position and minding his own dynasty.
€1.20 gone.
Another spin.
Crocodile.
Queen.
Q.
Nothing.
The snow kept falling over Egypt.
A pyramid in winter already has enough problems without a crocodile wearing Christmas colours nearby.
The balance began moving down.
A Wild line returned €5.60.
Then several empty spins removed it.
Another coloured Gem rose into its pot.
No feature.
Another later.
Still closed.
The three pots above the reels had begun to look like extremely selective Christmas stockings.
Jewellery went in.
Nothing came out.
A mummy wandered through the symbols.
An Egyptian queen appeared twice without finding a third.
The crocodile managed a small line for €2.80 and returned immediately to looking pleased with itself.
I stayed at €1.20.
The session passed €20 down.
Then €30.
A Wild landed.
No Instant Bonus.
It helped a line for €3.60 and left.
The mummy with cash did not return.
He had delivered his twelve euros and vanished into the snow with the confidence of someone who knew Christmas logistics were no longer his concern.
More Gems reached the pots.
The middle section became an archaeology site funded entirely by my balance.
One spin gave two useful-looking Egyptian faces and a J.
Next produced a mummy beside a queen with nothing across the final reels.
A Wild appeared between stone letters and managed €2.40.
The pyramids stayed buried in snow.
The palms stayed frozen.
The corpse stayed wrapped.
By the time the session was roughly €55 down, I had stopped expecting Santa to solve Egypt.
Then the mummy landed on reel one.
Beside the rest of the symbols came a Collect & Win Gem.
The reels disappeared.
A 5×5 field opened.
And the mummy came back larger.
Two cells wide.
Two cells tall.
A 2×2 block of bandages standing in the middle of twenty-five positions.
Christmas had taken an object that was already wrapped and started adding square footage.
Five spins.
The first dropped Coins around him.
One €1.20 value landed under the bandages.
Collected.
Another Coin sat outside his body.
Untouched.
A Gem landed farther right.
The mummy moved toward it.
Four cells of ancient Egyptian corpse shuffled across the grid after a coloured jewel.
The Gem disappeared into him.
Next spin.
More Coins.
One beneath the mummy.
€3.60.
Collected.
Another landed just beyond his edge.
The difference between being under the dead man and beside the dead man had become financially important.
Another Gem appeared.
The mummy moved again.
He was not chasing treasure quickly.
He did not need to.
He was four squares of bandage in a Christmas hat occupying a quarter of the useful neighbourhood.
More Gems landed.
The collection climbed.
The fifth one disappeared.
The mummy grew.
3×3.
Nine cells.
Three more spins appeared.
Now there was substantially more corpse.
The 5×5 suddenly looked smaller.
Next spin dropped several Coins.
€2.40 under him.
Collected.
€6 under another part of the bandages.
Gone too.
One €12 Coin landed in the narrow strip he did not cover.
Safe.
For now.
A Gem appeared near it.
The mummy moved.
His 3×3 body shifted across the grid.
The Gem vanished.
The €12 Coin was no longer under him when everything settled.
It survived the ancient dead by approximately one square.
Christmas miracle.
Next drop brought two more Gems.
The mummy kept moving toward them.
Coins that entered his footprint disappeared into the running total.
€1.20.
€3.60.
€2.40.
The values were useful.
The visual situation was becoming far more expensive than the money.
Another Gem completed the next step.
The mummy expanded again.
4×4.
Sixteen cells of corpse.
Two more spins.
Only nine positions remained outside him.
The feature had started with a mummy.
It now had a building.
The next spin dropped Coins around the edges.
One €6 value landed in the only safe corner.
Three smaller Coins landed inside the mummy.
Collected immediately.
The safe €6 sat there looking increasingly temporary.
A Gem appeared beside it.
The mummy moved toward the Gem.
Sixteen cells shifted.
The Coin disappeared under the advancing bandages.
Collected.
There was almost nowhere left for money to hide.
Another spin.
Coins fell.
Most landed inside him now.
€1.20.
€4.80.
€2.40.
All gone into the total.
A Collect & Win Gem arrived.
Then another.
The upgrade count was close.
The 4×4 mummy occupied most of the field with the physical presence of a gift nobody could get through the front door.
The last required Gem landed near the top.
He moved.
Collected it.
The mummy expanded.
5×5.
The entire grid became mummy.
Twenty-five positions.
No outside.
No corner.
No escape route.
One additional spin appeared.
I had reached Christmas perfection.
A fully wrapped corpse now covered the entire present.
The final spin began.
Coins dropped onto him.
There was nowhere else to land.
One €1.20.
One €2.40.
Another €1.20.
A €6.
Collected.
All of them.
The total climbed.
And stopped.
Just under €48.
The screen contained a mummy large enough to occupy every cell of a 5×5 feature.
The mummy could now collect anything.
Christmas had wrapped Egypt from edge to edge.
Forty-eight euros.
The feature finished.
The enormous body disappeared.
The 5×5 folded away.
Normal reels returned.
The balance was still roughly €18 below where I had started.
On reel one sat a mummy.
Normal size.
One cell.
Santa hat.
Bandages.
Hands raised.
The same man had occupied twenty-five positions a few seconds earlier.
Now he fitted beside a K.
The next €1.20 stayed in the balance.
Christmas had folded him back up.
I hit a win. Diamond of Jungle hit delete.
